    When an illness or injury permanently prevents you from practising in your own speciality, Avant TPD Cover provides a lump sum benefit. When you have a family, the certainty of knowing you'll be covered can be even more important.

    Things to consider when taking out TPD Cover

    Benefits

    • Choose to have cover up to $5 million cover if you can never work in your own specialty again. A full benefit is payable for occupationally contracted HIV, hepatitis B or C.
    • Up to $500,000 advance payment if you lose a limb or sight in one eye (total and irrecoverable, in both cases).
    • In the event of financial hardship, you have the option to suspend premiums for up to 6 consecutive months. During this period, you do not have to pay premiums but cannot claim for events that occur during this period of premium suspension.
     
     

    Features

    • Larger insurance cover increases, more often and without the need for medical tests. Flexibility to increase your cover by up to 25% every year for things such as starting an internship or training program, qualifying as a fellow in your specialty, becoming a partner, or starting a practice, having children or taking out a mortgage.
    • If your TPD Cover is reduced due to a full claim being paid on a linked Trauma plan, it will be automatically reinstated after only six months.
    • World wide cover – Your TPD Cover plan will cover you 24 hours a day, anywhere in the world.

    • Choose between $50,000 and up to $5 million on your TPD Cover.
    • Your choice of stepped or level premiums.
    • Option to pay premiums through your self-managed superannuation fund where cover is taken under superannuation.
    • A range of ownership options to suit your circumstances including self-ownership, ownership by partners in your practice, another individual, a company or trust.

    Eligibility for TPD Cover

    Avant Life Insurance is available only to registered medical practitioners. If your spouse is a doctor they can also get cover. If your spouse is not a doctor AFS can help by recommending another life insurance provider.


    Eligibility

      To be eligible for TPD Cover, at the time of application you must be:

    • an Australian Resident
    • aged between 20 to 60 years old, and
    • a registered medical practitioner.
