From 2000 he has worked as a solicitor exclusively defending medical practitioners in a wide range of disciplinary and other administrative law matters. These included; professional disciplinary and impairment-related matters at all levels, coronial inquests and administrative law proceedings.

Doris commenced with Avant in February 2022. 

Before joining Avant, Doris worked with Ahpra investigating notifications made against registered health practitioners. Doris has also previously worked in private practice providing advice to clients in a variety of different areas of law including family law and criminal law.

Kate has been with Avant since 2011, having previously worked in the major claims legal team of United Medical Protection between 2004 – 2006.

Before joining Avant Kate was a partner in a London law firm specialising in medical negligence litigation for the NHS, and worked in a law firm in Singapore, advising doctors and medical practices. She has also had experience working in the public sector, for the Northern Territory Attorney-General’s Department and the Commonwealth Department of Veteran’s Affairs.

Kate is the head of the medico-legal advisory service, overseeing Avant’s 24/7 advice line. She has published articles and given presentations on a wide range of medico-legal topics, and is currently the assistant legal secretary of the NSW Medico Legal Society.
