The impact goals of Avant Foundation have been designed to create lasting, positive change in the Australian medical landscape so that we can meet our objectives to:

  • support research that will improve quality, safety, sustainability and professionalism in the practice of medicine
  • fund programs working with medical practitioners to improve patient care and health outcomes
  • help doctors overcome their experience of disadvantage in the pursuit of their medical or healthcare studies.

We ask all applicants to demonstrate how their research can be measured against our indicators and we prioritise grants that align with our impact goals.

These goals are set to create transformational change in healthcare through research, programs and bursaries. Our impact is defined under five domains: quality, safety, professionalism, sustainability and equity.

How your research aligns with our impact goals

Applicants should select up to three metrics from our impact goals to articulate their expected outcomes.

For example, you may choose the impact goals of ‘Quality of patient care’ and ‘Quality of medical practice’. You then choose up to three of the four metrics available. You decide to use two metrics and estimate how many patients will have improved health outcomes as a result of your research, and how many journal articles will be published about the research outcomes.

When your research is complete, the actual outcomes are recorded against the targets.

Indicators do not need scale to be considered valuable. We recognise that all improvements to medical practice have merit.
