Managing Patient Expectations

For many doctors, the consent process presents one of the more challenging aspects of their practice. Ensuring that patients are presented with all of the aspects of the consent discussion -including the benefits, potential complications, alternatives and risks, and given the opportunity to ask questions is essential. However, despite a full and comprehensive discussion, there may still remain a disconnect between the expectation of the patient and the surgeon's ability to deliver on these expectations.
