Improving healthcare
Improving healthcare is central to our members’ purpose and therefore to Avant. We are committed to the promotion of quality, safety, and professionalism in medical practice, to benefit our members and the communities they serve.

We invest millions in education, research, grants and advocacy activities, fearlessly advocating for a fair system and improvements in healthcare. Additional investment is made through our grant programs, funding member research and initiatives to advance quality, safety and professionalism in medicine to deliver better health outcomes.
United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals are used to guide us in delivering improved healthcare

Avant started its member grants program in 2012 in response to the difficulties doctors face securing research funding. In 2024, Avant committed $50m to Avant Foundation to ensure the sustainability of Avant’s long-standing program of grants.

To aid members in delivering best practice care to their patients, in 2023 we launched Avant Assist. This free, proactive service provides members and practices with a directory of resources, clinical tools and services to help them identify and reduce risks.

Following our successful Medicare education campaign for members, we engaged with the Medicare compliance branch of DoHAC about doctors’ needs for education. In 2023-24, we continued to work collaboratively with DOHAC, including providing ongoing input into education to meet doctors’ Medicare needs.

Avant partners with over 30 medical colleges, associations and societies on training, education, research and advocacy, to improve medical practice for the benefit of doctors and patients. Our partnership with Australian Orthopaedic Association focuses on improving outcomes for patients and sharing risk management resources with surgeons.

Avant provides regularly updated information to help members improve quality, safety and professionalism in practice. Members have free access to online courses, webinars and other CPD activities.
