Meet the team: Makala Goldsmith, Billings & Revenue Recovery Team Leader
Meet Makala Goldsmith, our driven Billings & Revenue Recovery Team Leader who combines genuine empathy with billing expertise to support the Avant Business Solutions team.
Makala has been with Avant Business Solutions since May 2021, making her one of the team’s familiar faces. She began her journey in the Remote Practice Support team in Melbourne before relocating to Queensland in January 2023, where she transitioned to the Billings team and earned a well-deserved promotion to Billings Team Leader in June 2025.
Since transitioning into the Billings team, Makala has developed strong experience in medical billing and revenue recovery, with a deep understanding of Medicare and health fund claiming processes and the complexities involved in supporting medical practices.
Before joining Avant, Makala spent four and a half years at Woolworths, working her way up to supervisor while putting herself through university, a testament to her work ethic and determination that has clearly followed her throughout her career.
Makala's approach to working with clients is rooted in empathy. She believes in showing genuine care for her clients' needs and is always offering practical solutions. She encourages clients to ask questions and provide feedback openly, knowing that there is often a real knowledge gap when it comes to understanding how doctors get paid through Medicare and health funds.
When she's not working, Makala treasures her time with her husband, their two-year-old son, and their beloved staffy, Bella. Life in Queensland suits her perfectly, she loves warm, sunny beach days (Bella is never far from her ball), but she also has a soft spot for the snow.
Fun fact: Makala went from checkout supervisor to Billings team leader, a career path that proves hard work and adaptability can take you anywhere!
