Funding

You can apply for grants up to $100,000 for one year. In assessing the project budget, we will consider whether the project represents value for money and its feasibility in terms of a likely outcome.

The number, type and value of projects funded will be determined by the quantity and quality of applications received and is entirely at our discretion.

Co-funding

We consider projects that already have funding commitments from other sources, as long as:

  • Avant is the primary funder of the project
  • any other funding is disclosed in your application and already secured at the time of your application.

Term of the grant

Funding is for one year.

Applicants cannot apply for another Avant Foundation grant until existing funded projects are completed with an acceptable final report submitted.

Eligibility

Avant Foundation Research Grants are open to universities, institutions and charities.

Evaluation process and criteria

Projects are evaluated using a closed, weighted evaluation system.

Criteria includes:

  • relevance of the project to the objectives and purpose of Avant Foundation
  • project clarity (clearly defined research proposal)
  • project impact (articulation of proposed impact and demonstrated benefit of the research)
  • experience of the project team and applicant entity
  • reasonableness of the indicative budget against the proposed project.

Applicants are encouraged to review the terms and conditions and assessment criteria.

Please note, results of judging are confidential and will not be shared with applicants. We provide visibility of selection criteria to guide applicants to submit projects with the best chance of success. Judges’ decisions are final.

Other grants

Avant Foundation has three other grant programs to help fulfil our impact objectives.
