Crazy Socks 4 Docs aims to normalise and create a safe space for healthcare professionals to have conversations about mental wellbeing. It was created by cardiologist and Avant member, Dr Geoff Toogood, following his own experience with depression and anxiety.

The wellbeing of doctors is essential for the delivery of good healthcare, and by working with stakeholders, we strive to change the systems and cultures adversely impacting doctors’ health and wellbeing.

Keep the conversation going about doctors’ mental wellbeing:

Wear your crazy socks on Friday, 3 June.

Care – use your crazy socks as a conversation starter to help increase awareness.

Share your crazy sock photos using #crazysocks4docs and #avantmutual on social media to spread the message.

Crazy sock design competition

To support this initiative, Avant ran a design competition for student members and the winning design will be immortalised on socks.

Crazy Socks design winner 2022

The winning design was by Kevin Wang titled ‘Serotonin and Dopamine’ and was inspired by the literal process of what brings us joy. Kevin said “Where would we be without serotonin and dopamine? Not only do they bring us joy and happiness, but they also help with our focus, memory and even digestion! We owe so much to these little guys, so I thought I'd dedicate this design to them.”
