Case study – Billings+
How Billings+ helped The Centre for Gastrointestinal Health recover $243k in lost revenue
Background
The Centre for Gastrointestinal Health provides gastroenterology, metabolic and dietitian services. It opened in 2023 and has seven locations across regional and metropolitan New South Wales.
Its vision is to provide personalised, quality care to patients, with a holistic focus on lifestyle as one of the cornerstones of gut health.
The problem
The Centre for Gastrointestinal Health needed to address its time-consuming and error-prone medical billing processes.
The business was on a growth trajectory, with an expanding workforce and multiple locations. The practice manager and billings manager had to process a significant number of claims in a short timeframe, which they were finding to be unmanageable alongside other daily responsibilities.
The managers had found that manually submitting and processing claims was slow. This meant that doctors and associates were waiting weeks to receive payments.
Another issue was that the business had a large backlog of billings that had not yet been processed due to the sheer volume of work. Some unprocessed claims were nearing the two-year cut-off period when they can no longer be submitted.
The Centre for Gastrointestinal Health decided it needed help to process these claims – otherwise, it stood to lose out on a significant amount of revenue.

The solution
Dr Farzan Bahin, a Director at The Centre for Gastrointestinal Heath, chose Billings+ by Avant Practice Solutions, which provides medical and surgical billing support. Doctors can submit claims via the Billings+ smartphone app and the expert Billings+ team is able to process most claims within two business days.
Billings+ helps streamline what is typically a paper-based and time-consuming process, reducing the touchpoints for on-site personnel and helping free up staff time to focus on other important tasks.
The Billings+ team also offers a debt recovery service where they can process historical claims to help ensure doctors get paid for the work they do.
The results
“Billings+ has significantly reduced the turnover time of billings, simplified the process and has ultimately resulted in the doctors and the healthcare providers that are in our practice and in our group receive their fees and payments quicker.”
- Dr Farzan Bahin MBBS (Hons) FRACP PhD MPhil, Director, The Centre for Gastrointestinal Health
The Centre for Gastrointestinal Health has experienced many benefits since implementing Billings+. The turnaround time of processing claims has significantly improved, and doctors and associates receive their payments within three to four days, rather than weeks.
This has helped the Centre manage its cash flow and has helped ensure doctors aren’t missing out on earned revenue. The Billings+ team was also able to help the practice recover $243,000 of outstanding accounts in a six-week period. This significantly boosted the practice’s revenue.
“We had a backlog of bad debt and unprocessed claims. Billings+ came to the rescue to recover to the tune of $200,000+ to our practice.”
- Dr Farzan Bahin MBBS (Hons) FRACP PhD MPhil, Director, The Centre for Gastrointestinal Health
Their results:
- Collected $243,000 of lost revenue by processing old claims
- Significantly increased the turnaround of billings and receiving payments
- Freed up the practice manager’s time to focus on other responsibilities.
